MAK Studio has previously been awarded the grand prize in the American Institute of Architects' international competition, placing ahead of over 1,700 entries. Michael Alexander Kao, the design principal, has taught extensively in the department of architecture at the University of California Berkeley, where he also received his masters degree in architecture. Before the forming of MAK Studio, Michael has won numerous national and international design competitions– the most notable being a finalist position in an international competition to design a new building for the German House of Representation.
